Colca Canyon trek - Misti 06 Days

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arequipa - Cabanaconde - San Juan de Chuccho
Pick-up at the arranged time (06:00 a.m.). Leave Arequipa, taking the highway north, alongside Chachani Mountain and later entering the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. We will make a stop at a place called Pampa Cañahuas, where we will be able to observe llamas and alpacas. Within the reserve, it is possible to see a wide variety of fauna and flora.
We will ascend to the highest point of the journey, Patapampa (Mirador de los Andes – 4,910m). We will pass the town of Chivay, capital of the Caylloma province, before continuing on the journey to the next town, called Cabanaconde where we will have lunch and then begin the trek. We will trek down approximately 1km before arriving at the first town inside the Colca Canyon, San Juan de Chuccho. Here we will rest, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2: San juan - Cabanaconde
Breakfast. We continue our trek passing the communities of Coshñirhua and Malata, until we reach another community, Sangalle. Here we can enjoy the pool of 22ºC. At the arranged time, we will trek up the Canyon to Cabanaconde where we will spend the night.

Day 3: Cabanaconde - Cruz del condor - Arequipa
Lunch. Leave towards Cruz del Cóndor, from where it is possible to see the fascinating flight of the condors and the view of the deepest part of the Canyon. Here we will stay for approximately one hour. We will then continue our journey, visiting several traditional towns located on the left side of the Colca river including Maca, Pinchollo y Yanque. Also we will see ancient housing models, Incan terraces and colonial churches.
After arriving in Chivay, we will take the transport to thermal baths of Calera (38º C). After varied buffet lunch, we will return to Arequipa.

Day 4: Rest in Arequipa
Free in Arequipa

Day 5: Arequipa - Base Camp "Piramide"
Early pick-up from the hotels early and leave for Arequipa. Our transport will drop us off at 3400m from where the ascent will begin as we adjust to the change in altitude. We will arrive at Base Camp ‘Pirámide’ (4610m) and set up our tents, before dinner and bed.

Day 6: Base Camp - Summit Misit Volcano 5825 m.
After an early breakfast, we will begin the ascent to the summit which we will reach before midday. We will have spectacular views of the Volcanic Mountain Range of Southern Peru. Having enjoyed the views, we return to Base camp and take our transport back to Arequipa where we will arrive in the afternoon.
